"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty. -John F. Kennedy
This weekend my son, Nic and I had the pleasure to show our support for the fallen. Nic and I ran for a Brother of mine, SGT Anthony Maddox who passed in Afghanistan on July 22, 2013. This deployment was by far the hardest on myself and my team.
I had a great sense of pride recognizing SGT Maddox and being able to share this experience with my son. Nic of course put me to shame and made it a race and whooped me something fierce, he crossed the finish line with the Soldiers (those here for basic) who left ten minutes prior to the rest of us. Needless to say, I arrived crossing the finish line to a young man with his hands on his hips and a grin the size of Mount Rushmore gleaming in the sun.
